What is Johnson County Developmental Supports?

Established as Johnson County Mental Retardation Center in 1972, Johnson County Developmental Supports (JCDS) is a nationally accredited, community-based service agency providing a variety of employment, community living and social services to persons with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. Headquartered in Lenexa, JCDS has community living units, and work sites and staff scattered at different locations throughout Johnson County.

BECAUSE WE NEED YOU! We need your skills, your energy and your caring to enrich the services Johnson County Developmental Supports provides. Volunteering offers opportunities to meet new people, allows the exploration of new career opportunities, develops individual creativity, provides the reward of helping others...and it’s FUN!

Who Can Volunteer?

Anyone 16 year of age and older! Through JCDS, enthusiastic families and groups can pick one or more volunteer opportunities which meet their personal goals and interests for volunteering.

By volunteering a JCDS, you can help enhance the quality of life and encourage a more independent lifestyle for individuals with developmental disabilities. You’ll also be creating new ways to express yourself!
